Wintery Weekend

I was under the impression that it does not snow in Portland, but this past week has proved me wrong! Saturday we got another snowstorm. We decided we needed to get out of the house for a few hours, so we took the train downtown to the Portland Saturday Market. I was surprised to see all the vendors out and people shopping even with the awful weather. Here are some pictures of us in the snow at the market.

After we wandered around the market, we tried to find somewhere for lunch. A lot of restaurants and stores were closed due to the weather, but we ended up going to a place called Huber's which claims to be Portland's oldest restaurant. They are famous for their turkey dinner which is served everyday. Jeff and I got hot turkey sandwiches with stuffing, cranberries and gravy served over the sandwich. It really hit the spot, especially on such a cold wintery day.

Sunday has been another snowy day, it was so snowy that church was cancelled. We have been reading and watching a ton of movies. Jeff decided to make Jambalaya, it was delicious. He thinks it needs to be a bit more spicy, but I think it's great the way it is. Here are some pictures of the snow from our apartment.

Seared Ahi Tuna

Last night Jeff made Seared Ahi Tuna. Neither one of us have made this before, but we decided to give it a try. It was absolutely delicious. I was amazed because Jeff used what we had in our kitchen to make a wonderful Asian salad dressing that went perfectly with the tuna. Jeff is a wonderful cook and each day I learn something new from him.

Winter Wonderland

Today was a crazy day in Portland, it snowed! We rarely get snow, so when it does happen, nobody knows how to react and the city shuts down. I'm not sure how to react either since I've been living in Los Angeles for awhile. I think I'll just admire the snow from the inside, where it's nice and warm. Here's a picture from our apartment.

Ward Christmas Dinner

Last Saturday was our Ward Christmas Dinner. We had a wonderful time visiting with people in the ward and the food was amazing. We are lucky to have a professional chef in the ward who cooked the dinner. The first course was a roasted pepper carrot soup. The main course was a choice between tenderloin wellington with mashed potatoes or rosemary chicken with risotto. I had the chicken and Jeff got the pork, both dishes were absolutely delicious. The dessert was also very good, it was a chocolate mousse in a chocolate cup. Here are some pictures. Notice Jeff's Christmas tie, everyone in the ward loved it.

Pickle Update

So just a quick blurb on the pickled beets. Awesome, just one of the best things ever. They are a bit firmer than most pickled beets that I've had, but that might be fixed by roasting just a bit longer. But the pickle is just wonderful and it's a great addition to any salad, or I like them just as a snack. We'll be making more of these in the near future.

Pickled Beets

Jeff made some pickled beets today. He saw them on Food Network's Good Eats. It was a lot of fun and tasty too. Can't wait the 3-7 days until we can have the pickled version.

Corvallis Open House

We had our open house in Corvallis, last weekend at the stake center. We used the multipurpose room and it looked great. My mom (Dawnell) did a lot of work on preparing the decorations and food. It turned out really great and with the quilt she made and the photos the Pope's brought out, it was a beautiful room. Here are some photos of the event, featured are cakes from Jillicious Desserts. Jill's a friend of mine and her desserts taste as good or better than they look, and they always look amazing!

Homemade pizza

Jamie and I were shopping recently at Trader Joe's. She saw the pizza dough and sauce, so we picked some up and made some pizza. I called an audible though at the last minute and used some frozen butternut squash for the sauce. We also had red peppers, onions and used a rotisserie chicken that we'd shedded to top it off. It was really good and you can see the results here.

1st Post and video

So we've returned from our honeymoon and are just getting back into the swing of things. Like our other family members, we're starting a blog, so that we can keep others informed of our life. But for today, I'm (Jeff) just going to upload some video of our trip to Seattle. Hopefully this will tide you over until we can write some more.
