Farmer's Market

This morning Jeff and I got up early and went to the Farmer's Market in Portland. We immediately headed over to the Pine State Biscuits booth. They have the best biscuit sandwiches. Jeff took me to Pine State Biscuits the first time I came up to Portland to visit him. I was very excited to find out they have a booth at the Farmer's Market on Saturdays. We both got the McIsley, which is fried chicken with pickles, mustard and honey. I usually don't like a lot of fried food, but I make an exception for this sandwich, it's delicious.

After a wonderful breakfast, we wandered around the market. We got some produce, including leeks, which I've never had before and I'm very excited to try them. We also bought some wonderful desserts. We had a stawberry and rhubarb tart and we bought some cookies at a place called Two Tarts. Yeah, we went a little crazy with the sweets, but it's a holiday weekend.

On a side note, I noticed on Facebook that our friend Elizabeth saw Keri Russell at the Farmer's Market this morning. I can't believe I missed her. I guess we'll just have to hang out at the Market every Saturday morning.

Photo Shoot

On Monday I had the opportunity to help out my friend Chelsea of Frolic with a photo shoot she was styling. The photo shoot was a collaboration of some of the wedding vendors in the Portland area. I really enjoyed just being there and interacting with the designers. Check out the designers and their websites. I can't wait to see all the pictures in a few weeks, but here are a few now from the Twigs and Honey website.

Saint Cupcake

Who can resist a cupcake? I was in Portland and on the way home I decided to stop by Saint Cupcake and get a little treat. I've heard a lot about Saint Cupcake and was dying to try it out. I decided to try the Toasted Coconut Cream and the Chocolate with Cream Cheese Frosting. I really wanted to try the Red Velvet cupcake, but that is only available on Fridays and Saturdays, I guess I'll have to go back. They also have a cupcake made with malt balls that looks very interesting. I thought the cupcakes were good, but not as good as Sprinkles and Magnolia Bakery. I was a bit disappointed with the size of the Saint Cupcakes, they are a bit small compared to other cupcake places. Jeff likes the frosting better at Saint Cupcake but likes the cake better at Sprinkles. Is there a way to combine the two?

Gutter Twins Concert

Friday night Jeff and I went to the Gutter Twins concert at the Doug Fir in Portland. We had never heard of them, but we thought we'd check it out anyway. We both really enjoyed the music and the venue was equally great. One of the highlights of the concert, besides the music, was the great people watching. You just never know what you might see at these things and that's half of the fun. Check out Jeff's blog to hear the Gutter Twins music. Here is a picture of us at the concert.

Super Bowl Sunday

I'm week late on posting this, but I wanted to post it anyway. Jeff saw a Tyler Florence chili recipe that he wanted to try, and Super Bowl Sunday was the perfect day to test out the recipe. We actually cooked it Saturday night so it would be ready in time, and chili is always better the next day. The recipe is called Mexican Pork Chili. We roasted the pork in the oven with the onions and tomatillos. Once everything was done, we pureed the onions and the tomatillos in a blender and then added chicken stock so it had more of a soup consistency. We added the pork and all the seasonings. It was delicious and we loved it.
